Amaju Pinnick, a member of the FIFA Council, has reiterated that his bid for re-election is not a “do or die affair. “With Africa set to hold elections in Cairo, Egypt, in just 12 days, Pinnick is one of the favorites among the 10 candidates vying for the five available spots.

Speaking on SuperSport’s African Soccer program, Pinnick emphasized that his quest for a second term is driven by his desire to build on the progress made by the Gianni Infantino-led FIFA Council.

“I just want to ensure that those bridges built in the first term, those contacts made, are well utilized for the greater good of global football,” he explained.

Pinnick also praised Infantino’s leadership, noting that he has brought integrity and financial health to FIFA. He stressed that being a member of the FIFA Council is a collective effort, rather than an individual achievement.

The former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will face stiff competition from nine other candidates, including Hany Abou Rida (Egypt), Fouzi Lekjaa (Morocco), and Augustine Senghor (Senegal). The elections will take place in Cairo, Egypt, in March.

Pinnick’s comments come as Africa prepares to elect its representatives to the FIFA Council.

The elections will have significant implications for the future of African football, and Pinnick’s experience and expertise make him a strong contender for re-election.
