Edo Queens Football Club of Benin has secured their second consecutive win in the NWFL Premiership, defeating Heartland Queens of Owerri 2-1 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium yesterday.
The match, which saw Edo Queens dominate proceedings, was marked by intense pressure from the visiting team, who were determined to secure all three points.
Emem Essien opened the scoring for Edo Queens in the 40th minute, netting a right-footed shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal post.
However, Heartland Queens equalized through a penalty scored by Mathew Monica in the 48th minute, bringing the scoreline to 1-1.
Despite the setback, Edo Queens continued to push for the win, and their efforts paid off in the 70th minute when Goodness Osigwu scored the winning goal, sealing a 2-1 victory for the Benin-based team.
The win marks Edo Queens’ continued unbeaten run in the premiership and keeps them on track for a potential return to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
