The city of Lagos is set to welcome an estimated 4,000 international runners, including 100 elite athletes from around the world, as the 10th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon takes place on February 15.
The first wave of international athletes is expected to arrive in Nigeria on February 13, ahead of the highly anticipated event, which has been themed “Love in the Air” to coincide with Valentine’s Day celebrations.
According to Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management, meticulous planning has gone into making this edition memorable. “We are thrilled to welcome athletes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, Eritrea, France, Uganda, Italy, and Ghana,” she said.
The event promises to be an exciting experience, with Lagos providing a unique and welcoming environment for athletes and spectators alike. “Lagos will be buzzing with energy, unity, and the spirit of competition on race day,” Olopade added.
The build-up to the main race has already commenced, with the first marathon expo kicking off at Teslim Balogun Stadium earlier this week. Last year’s winners, Kenyan runner Bernard Sang and Ethiopian athlete Kebene Chala, took home top honors in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
With Kenyan dominance evident in previous editions, all eyes are on the city as it gears up to host some of the world’s finest long-distance runners.
The 10th edition of the Lagos City Marathon promises to be an unforgettable experience, showcasing the city’s warmth, vibrancy, and top-tier hospitality.
