The National U17 Cricket Championship has seen exciting developments in the South South and South East zones. Edo State emerged as champions in the South South zone, while Ebonyi girls have dominated the South East zone, winning all their games.
In the South South zone, Edo State defeated Akwa Ibom State by 75 runs to claim the top spot. Princewill Chigozie was awarded the Player of the Match after taking four Akwa Ibom wickets, including the prized scalp of Bright Edem, who had earlier scored 126 runs against Rivers State.
Meanwhile, in the South East zone, Ebonyi girls have been unstoppable, winning all their games against Anambra and Abia State. They are set to face Enugu in their final game on Monday.
Abia State players, Ifeanyi Uzoamaka and Angel John, have recorded outstanding performances, with Uzoamaka scoring 30 runs in two games and Angel taking four wickets in two games.
The South East Zone finals will be played on Monday at Government Secondary School, Afikpo, for both male and female categories.
Surveyor Chika Okoro, NCF Board Member for the South East Zone, was impressed with the girls’ performance and plans to reward the best-performing players in the zone.
