A record 120 players will converge in Lagos this weekend to compete for a share of the over three million naira prize pool at the fifth Janet Adowei Memorial Scrabble Championship.

The two-day tournament, which features 18 rounds of mind games, has attracted some of the biggest names in Scrabble, including defending champion Ryan Jacob of Akwa Ibom State.

Jacob will face stiff competition from top players such as African champion Timilehin Doko, former African champion Enoch Nwali, John Aiyedun, and George Ezinore, Africa’s number two-ranked player.

The tournament, which is sanctioned by the Pan-African Scrabble Association (PANASA) and the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, will feature three categories: Masters, Intermediate, and Open.

According to the organizers, the Janet Adowei Memorial Scrabble Championship (JAMSC) was established by Ebikeme Adowei, former President of the Lekki Scrabble Club, to honor his late mother and promote organized Scrabble tournaments in Nigeria.

With its record-breaking field and impressive prize pool, this year’s JAMSC promises to be an exciting and competitive event.
