Carl Ikeme Nigeria’s Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper has been ruled out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Algeria.

The Nigeria national team is billed to square up with Algeria on Saturday, November 12 in the second match of the World Cup qualifiers in Uyo.

The encounter seem to have been dealt a setback following the withdrawal of the Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper due to an injury he picked up in the last game for his club.

Ikeme sustained the injury in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, October 29. Meanwhile the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been informed that he will not be able to recover in time for the Algeria clash.

“Ikeme wrote to the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday to inform us that he will not recover in time for the Algeria game,” the NFF have confirmed.

A return date has not been set for the 30-year-old goalkeeper but several reports suggest that he will be out for several weeks.

Gernot Rohr Super Eagles Technical Adviser has called up South Africa-based Daniel Akpeyi as replacement.
