Hurricane SC are the new champions of the Mindgame Incorporated (MGI) Scrabble Premier League 2023 season concluded at a well attended grand finale on Saturday in Lagos, South West, Nigeria.

Hurricane SC, that has in it’s fold current African champion, Enoch Nwali, West Africa West Games champion, Doko Oluwatimilehi both students of the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG), Cyril Umebiye current South West Closed winner alongside 2021 champion of South West close, Adeyemi Adeosun and 2022 National Sports Festival gold medalist Jimoh Abdulmumin, dominated the final Match Day 3 of the League to take home the top prize of 1.5 million naira.

They garner 30 wins just like Supreme and Tekena Drones who were the front runners before the final day but Hurricane’s massive and mountainous spread of 5028 cumulative points gave them the edge. Supreme came second and Tekena Drones were third.

Word Crafts, parading the likes of five time Kano open champion Segun Durojaye, George Ezinore, Tega Okiemute, Larry Etuwa and Abiola Oyinloye that finished at the foot of the table has been relegated to the second division of the league.

Airpop Alpha won the last edition of the MGI Scrabble Premier League.

D’Warriors managed by the one affectionately called Dynamite, Khaleed Adedeji were too strong the other 11 teams in the second division of the MGI Scrabble League.

They top the Division 2 with 37 wins and a spread of 4992 points ahead of Sterling Bombers and Anagrammers with 33 wins each while High Flyers that actually were low flyers with just 14 wins and 41 defeats plus a mind boggling record of minus 9847 points came first from the rear of the League.

D’Warriors, now heads to the Premier League with their one million naira prize money.

The MGI Scrabble Premier League is one of the two Leagues in Nigeria. The other is the NSF Inter Club League and Warri Scrabble Club are the current champions.

Anthony Odok, won the MGI Patrons Cup a sideline event also decided on Saturday. Wellington Jighere came second and Dipo Akanbi finished third.
