A suspected cult leader was apprehended by Lagos State Police Command agents after his group tried to seize control of a tricycle park, known as Keke Marwa, in the state’s Fadeyi neighbourhood by force.

The arrest was verified by the command’s public relations officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday in Lagos.

According to Hundeyin, the suspect was taken into custody by members of the Onipanu Police Division on Wednesday.

He continued by saying that during the arrest, two live cartridges and a handgun manufactured locally were found.

According to Hundeyin, the police were notified that six alleged members of a cult were intimidating drivers of commercial tricycles at Keke Marwa Park in the Fadeyi neighbourhood.

The PPRO said that after receiving the information, a group of law enforcement officers arrived at the location right away and detained a man named Seun Olatunbosu.

”The suspects, armed with dangerous weapons, including guns, cutlasses, and axes, disrupted the activities of the park and also tried to attack the chairman of the said park.

”On receipt of the information, a team of anti-crime operatives immediately went to the scene, and one Seun Olatunbosu, 29 years old, was arrested with one locally made pistol and two live cartridges while others escaped,” he said.

The command’s spokesperson said that during the investigation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity.

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang,” he added.

Similarly, officers from the Igando Division of the state command arrested two suspects, Hammed Olawale and Japhet Oderinde, during a rival cult clash last Wednesday with a locally fabricated semiautomatic pistol recovered from the suspects.
