Rivers United will bring their Nigeria Professional Football League title-winning campaign to a close on Sunday evening, with seventh-placed Gombe United making the trip to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

The Pride of Rivers will enter this contest off the back of a 2-3 defeat at Shooting Stars FC, with Chijioke Akuneto’s brace not enough to cancel out the effort from Shooting Stars Emmanuel Lucky, Opeoluwa Olufemi and Moses Omoduemuke.

Indeed, Coach Stanley Eguma’s side will be looking to end the league campaign on a high with a win as they go in search of breaking their own 74 points mark for the league winner set on matchday 36 after win against Kano Pillars FC.

Rivers United have been comfortably the best side in Nigeria’s top flight this season, winning 22, drawing 8 and losing 7 of their 37 matches, scoring 57 times and conceding 24 in the process.

Eguma’s team also have the best home record in the NPFL this term, collecting 52 points from 18 matches, with just one draw in the process, but they will be welcoming a Gombe United outfit with a not impressive away form, having secured 7 points from their 16 games on their travels.

Despite sitting just 7 points behind third-placed Remo Stars FC ahead of the final date of fixtures, Gombe United cannot finish in the CAF Club continental League spots due to their points gathered.

The Savannah scorpions will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 win over Rangers International FC on Sunday.
