In a significant blow to trans-border drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has busted a notorious cartel, arresting four members and recovering millions of naira worth of opioids and other illicit substances.
The operation, which was carried out across several states, including Anambra, Cross River, Nasarawa, Taraba, Ekiti, and Lagos, resulted in the seizure of:
– 190,960 pills of tramadol concealed in the bumper and false bottom of Sienna buses heading to border towns
– 404.47grams of methamphetamine, 506.49grams of Loud, and 262.32grams of dimethyl sulfone hidden in motor spare parts
– 170,000 pills of tramadol in a truck driven by Paul Chukwudi, 31, in Cross River state
– 85,400 bottles of codeine-based syrup in a container imported from India at the Apapa seaport in Lagos
– 60 compressed blocks of skunk, weighing 72kg, in Borno state
– 83 kilograms of skunk in Ekiti state
– 169.5 litres of nitrous oxide and 111grams of Loud in Lagos
– 132.84 kilograms of skunk in Taraba state
The NDLEA also arrested several suspects, including Kingsley Mbaeri, an Onitsha-based dealer who supplied the seized tramadol consignment.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of the Directorate of Intelligence, Apapa, Cross River, Borno, Ekiti, Taraba, and Lagos Commands for their efforts in disrupting the trans-border drug cartel.
