Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, on Friday, presented medals and other donations to winners at the Maiden Lafia Junior Tennis Competition facilitated by Maya Tennis Academy.
The Competition which was for participants between ages 10 to 15 years featured promising talents from across Nasarawa State.
Held at the Nasarawa Luxury Hotel, Lafia, from 8th-12th January, 2024, the tournament aimed to bring together talented young players from the State, which according to the organizer, would add significant value to the competition and the game in the State.
At the grand finale of the tournament, God-Giver Elisha emerged winner of the 10 and Under Category while Muazu Suleiman came 2nd.
In the 12 and Under Category, Ismail Shuaibu came first, followed by Abdul Mohammed.
In the 15 and Under Category, Abraham Syria and Ogah Francis came 1st and 2nd positions respectively.
While presenting medals to the winners, Honourable Jafaru congratulated the participants for exhibiting excellence and fighting spirit reminiscent in adult sports people, emphasizing that Champions are made from the grassroots.
He said the State will put search light on the athletes to monitor their development in order to nurture them into becoming global stars and worthy ambassadors of the State.
Jafaru applauded the foresight of the Organizer of the competition, Hassan Usman Abubakar, and urged him to sustain the tempo, nothing that individuals and Organizations like Maya Tennis Academy are considered as partners in progress in the attainment of the Governor Abdullahi Sule administration’s mantra for youth and sports development.
