Ikorodu United, defeated defending champions, Enyimba International FC in a thrilling encounter played today at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta. The encounter was the rescheduled Match Day 24 fixture, owing to the visiting side’s involvement in the CAF Champions League.
The Oga Boys as they are fondly called by their darling fans opened scoring in the encounter through Fatai Abdullahi. The hosts grew into the encounter taking the game to their visitors with their impressive displays upfront.
Enyimba equalized in the 30th minute from the penalty spot. The spot kick was well converted by prolific forward, Mfon Udoh who finishes coolly past Ikorodu United’s goal keeper Adam Azeez. Moments after his goal, Mfom missed a glorious chance to give Enyimba the lead. The first half ended 1-1 with the referees signaling for an additional two minutes to be played.
Ikorodu United restored their lead through club captain, Balogun Oluwole after a miss by Chinedu Onyelonu. The thrilling encounter continued with sleek passing from both sides and Enyimba equalized for the second time in the game when Musa Najare scored for Enyimba in the 62nd minute.
The host got the deserved winning goal from substitute Michael Okoyoh who came in for Paul Duke in the 69th minute. Barely two minutes on the pitch, Michael Okoyoh scored against his former club, Enyimba FC after a fine counter attacking game from the home side. The match ended 3-2 inn favour of the Oga Boys.
Before today’s game, Ikorodu United thrashed Kano Pillars 4-1 in their last home match in Abeokuta. The team also shocked Heartland FC 1-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium with Fatai Abdullahi scoring the only goal of the tie.
Oga Boys will be away to Plateau United on Sunday in Jos before retiring to Abeokuta to face Rangers of Enugu on the 25th.
