It was a thriller of goals today at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, as the defending Champions of the women category of the Edo State Federation Cup, Edo Queens Football Club of Benin, retained the prestigious Cup.

In a game that saw the defending champions, whitewash Fortress Ladies 8-0, a match that attracted hundreds of football pundits across the State.

With the 2023 cup glory, Edo Queens have been crowned the only champions of the Edo FA Cup since its inception.

The NWFL club side expectedly lived up to expectation against their Amateur opponent, Fortress Ladies, who didn’t pose any threat to the defending champions.

Bashiru Kafayat opened scoring for Edo Queens in the 13th minute of play. Yemisi Samuel scored a hattrick in the (17th), (22nd) and (40th) minutes before Kafayat Bashiru netted a second goal, to make it a brace. With the scoreline hanging at 5-0 at half time.

As the second half resumed, Alice Ogebe increased the tally for Edo Queens in the 47th minutes. Sulehat Aberdeen later scored twice (68), (77) minutes to complete the rout.

The Nigerian Women Football League NWFL Group B leaders Edo Queens and Fortress Ladies, will be representing Edo state at the National level of the Federation cup.
