The Technical Adviser of Plateau United Football Club of Jos, Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has appealed to individuals and public-spirited organizations to complement government efforts in making life better for the youths.
According to a press release e-signed by Albert Dakup, the coach Ilechukwu made the appeal during the kick-off of the maiden edition of his Football Competition, organized by a section of the Supporters Club of Plateau United Football Club, which took place at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos on Thursday.
The former Heartland of Owerri Coach explained that the essence of the competition apart from being an avenue to discover talents, is also his own little way of giving back to the society as his contributions to the upliftment of the youth.
Ilechukwu disclosed that as a grassroot coach who has discovered several national and international players, organizing such competition is a veritable ground for the discovery of young budding talents. Who can be moulded as future professional prayers thereby earning a living for themselves and their families.
“As an individual I don’t believe government can do it alone by providing for the teeming jobless youths. Individuals need to complement government efforts in this regards so as to give a future to the upcoming generation”, the statement reads.
The Plateau United Technical Adviser said this is not the first time a grassroots competition is organised in his name as he has sponsored such competitions during his time at MFM of Lagos and Heartland of Owerri, stressing that he will continue to do that even after he lives Plateau United.
He specifically thanked the General Manager of Plateau United, Pius Henwan and the Club Technical Director, Ahmed Ibrahim for the unflinching support, describing their contribution to the kick-off of the competition as massive.
The amiable coach commended governor Simon Lalong for his total support to the team, the Club’s hardworking supporters as well as the Plateau Football Association for their support which has gone a long way in motivating the team.
On the club’s preparations for the CAF Champions League, Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu stressed that preparations are in top gear to fortify the team as the technical crew have earmarked some experience players who will be joining the team soon.
The CHAN Eagles and Under twenty-three National team assistant Coach noted that the technical crew and management of the team have been putting their heads together to ensure a decent campaign in the continent this time around after two previous unsuccessful attempts that ended in the preliminary rounds.
“Plateau United is a big brand in Nigerian football and deserved to be among the best clubs in the top flight going by its rich football history. After producing several national team players who have done the nation proud, as such all hands must be on deck by all stakeholders to support the team”.
Ilechukwu who only joined the team October last year has taken the Peace Boys to the second spot on the Nigeria Professional Football League table and a ticket to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League.
This is the third time Plateau United will be flying Nigeria’s flag in the CAF Champions League after doing so in 2018 and 2020.
