As the clock ticks closer to the North-Central derby clash between Kwara United versus visiting Nasarawa United on Sunday, Chairman of the Solid Miners, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi has urged his wards to approach the game with a positive mentality.
He disclosed this shortly after the team’s light training session held on Saturday evening at the Kwara State Sports Complex, Ilorin.
In his remarks, Danladi said,
“Let me congratulate you, once again, on the deserved victory over League Champions, Rivers United, last weekend.
“There are three matches left before the current campaign winds down, and nothing stops us from getting, at least, six points out of a possible nine from those remaining matches.
“We are yet to pick away points since the beginning of the second half of this season, but I think it won’t be out of place if we have a change of mentality, starting from tomorrow’s game, to break the jinx.
“It’s the same opposition that scuttled our beautiful start to the season at home after they played the spoiler’s role, sharing the points with us before our home fans.
“We can’t and shouldn’t be complacent about this. Let’s sacrifice all we have got to get our own pound of flesh from them tomorrow.”
The Chairman admitted that the encounter would be tough, especially considering the scenarios surrounding both teams, with Nasarawa United aiming to firm their top-ten spot while the Afonja Warriors are pushing for a continental ticket.
“It’s certainly not going to be an easy zonal derby, moreso that they will have the complement of their home fans following approval by the League Organizers, even though we are not deterred because we will also have a handful of support at the venue.
“Let’s be disciplined and undistracted in tomorrow’s encounter so we can further advance on the league table”, he concluded.
A 19th minute early goal by Alao Danbani and a 64th minute equalizer by Michael Tochukwu saw the first-leg of this clash ending 1-1 apiece in Lafia on 2nd March, 2022.
Nasarawa United currently sit on 10th position after 35 games with 47 points, five points lesser than their opponents tomorrow.
However, a convincing victory on Sunday will see the Lafia-based side further appreciate on the log.
Kick-off for the game is 4pm, local time.
