Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has questioned Manchester United’s signing of 19-year-old French striker Anthony Martial for £36m.

This is coming on the heel of Louis van Gaal completing the signing of the Monaco striker on deadline day and Wenger believes that sum is huge for a 19-year-old.

Martial, who is only 19, became the most expensive teenager in history when he penned for Manchester United.

“Martial scored 11 goals in the French championship — that sums it up well,” at the UEFA’s elite coach forum in Nyon.

“Martial is a huge talent — he is 19 years old — but the investment is absolutely huge as well.

“It just shows that there are not many players in the world who can strengthen these teams.

Wenger has been under criticism from the club’s fans for his idle stance in the transfer market.

The north London club is the only club in Europe’s top five leagues that failed to sign an outfield player this summer, getting just Petr Cech, from Chelsea.

Arsenal’s lack of activity in the transfer window has driven the Arsenal Supporters Trust to call for an enquiry into the club’s transfer policy.

Wenger though seem defiant about it stating that he is pleased with the squad he has presently.

“Am I happy with the investment I make? Yes, every time,” Wenger said. I bought (Alexis) Sanchez, I bought (Mesut) Ozil, I bought Cech, I bought Gabriel last year.

“The problem at the moment is finding the players who guarantee you are a better team after, and that example last night shows you very well”, Wenger said regarding Manchester United’s signing of Martial.
