Nasarawa Amazons kicked off the second round of the NWFL with a thrilling 1-0 victory over visiting Remo Stars Ladies in Lafia. The hard-fought win marked the end of Remo Stars’ unbeaten run in the league.

The match, played at the Lafia City Stadium, saw Nasarawa Amazons dominate proceedings from the start. Ayatsea Hembafan and Akekeromowei Janet came close to scoring in the early stages, but Remo Stars’ goalkeeper Charlotte Adjei made several stunning saves to keep the scoreline level.

The decisive moment came in the dying moments of the game when Remo Stars conceded a penalty. Akudo Ogbonna was penalized for hacking down Akekeromowei Janet, who was clear on goal. Janet stepped up and converted the penalty, sending the fans into raptures.

Reacting to the win, Nasarawa Amazons’ coach Christopher Danjuma expressed delight, but also emphasized the need for improvement. “It’s a sweet win, but our conversion rate didn’t truly reflect our dominance. We’ll keep working on it.”

Danjuma acknowledged the toughness of the match, but expressed confidence in his team’s ability to qualify for the Super Six. “Every match is crucial, and we’ll stop at nothing to achieve our goal.”

Goal scorer Akekeromowei Janet attributed the win to the team’s determination and adherence to the coach’s tactics. “The game was tough, but we put all our strength into the coach’s tactics to get the desired result.”

Nasarawa Amazons will next face Dannaz Ladies of Lagos in MD9 as they continue their push for a Super Six slot.
