22 year old Oyo State cyclist Yekeen Tawakalt, has won two (2) silver and one (1) bronze medals at the just concluded African Continental Track Cycling Championship held in Cairo, Egypt from 10th to 14th January, 2024.
According to Miss Wasilat Adegoke the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Tawakalt secured Silver medals in 4km sprint and 1 kilometer sprint respectively, she also won bronze medal in 200m flying start.
The Commissioner further stated that the cycling champion who is an indigene of Oyo, is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State.
The press release signed by Tunde Ajibike, Director Media & Communications, three other cycling athletes represented Nigeria at the tournament: Grikpa Tombrapa Gladys from River State, Ayuba Grace from Kaduna State and Ofuodong Patience from River State.
The nine countries that participated in the Championship include Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Mauritius, Benin Republic and Sudan.
The Championship also serves as 2024 Paris Olympics qualifier for the forthcoming World Championship that is scheduled to hold in Denmark before the year runs out.
