The battle for regional supremacy in West African table tennis is set to intensify as top teams converge on Lagos for the 2025 ITTF Africa West Regional Championships.

The tournament, scheduled to take place from July 16 to 19 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, will feature fierce contests in both team and singles events, with national pride and continental tickets at stake.

Historically, Nigeria has dominated the region, but recent years have seen rising challenges from nations like Togo and Côte d’Ivoire. Togo’s men’s team, led by US-based star Kokou Fanny, is looking to replicate its historic 3-2 victory over Nigeria in the 2024 final. Nigeria’s men’s squad, however, boasts a strong lineup, including Matthew Kuti, Taiwo Mati, Muiz Adegoke, Abdulbasit Abdulfatai, and Matthew Fabunmi.

In the women’s category, Nigeria is expected to maintain its dominance despite the absence of reigning singles champion Hope Udoaka. Veteran Ajoke Ojomu will captain the team, guiding rising stars Aishat Rabiu and Aziza Sezuo in their quest to retain the title.
