The planned Sport Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Lagos Chapter Congress, scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 2025, has sparked controversy over the notice period. Members have raised concerns that the 72-hour notice is unconstitutional and may disenfranchise legitimate members.

According to the SWAN Constitution, all congresses must be announced with a minimum of 7 days’ notice to members. The short notice period has raised questions about procedural compliance, transparency, and fairness.

Members have called on the National leadership of SWAN to intervene in the matter, citing growing discomfort about the increasing culture of secrecy and exclusivity surrounding SWAN Lagos activities.

“To avert a repeat of past crises and to uphold the integrity of Lagos SWAN, we hereby call on the National leadership of SWAN to urgently intervene in this matter,” the members stated.

If the congress holds without proper notice, members have warned that they will take all legal options to protect their rights.

“Please, be rest assured that concerned stakeholders will take all legal options in the case that members are disenfranchised if the congress holds,” they said.
