The National Sports Commission (NSC) has thrown its weight behind the global fight against cancer, pledging to support the World Soccer Legends’ War Against Cancer initiative. The Commission’s Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, made the declaration while hosting the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) of the event at the NSC headquarters.
The initiative, scheduled for October 4, World Cancer Day, will feature a charity match with several famous African soccer legends in attendance. The event aims to create awareness about the scourge of cancer on the continent and beyond.
Mallam Dikko, who has been involved in the Cancer Walk in Abuja for the past decade, expressed his commitment to the cause, saying, “We can work together, collaborate, and see how we can make this World Soccer Legends’ Charity match succeed.” He assured the committee of the Commission’s support, stating that they would do everything possible to make the event a success.

The National Coordinator of the World Soccer Legends’ War Against Cancer, Jacob Onu, submitted the work plan to Mallam Dikko, highlighting the committee’s activities and objectives. Onu expressed optimism that the event would raise awareness and funds to tackle the health challenges posed by cancer.
The Special Adviser to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Adeyinka Adeboye, commended the committee for the laudable project, expressing confidence that the involvement of Mallam Dikko and the NSC would speed up the process.
With the support of stakeholders, the World Soccer Legends’ War Against Cancer initiative is poised to make a significant impact in the fight against cancer.
