The 2025 Lekki Scrabble Classic is set to play a crucial role in determining the top performers heading into the World English Speaking Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC).

Scheduled to take place from September 27 to 28 in Lagos, the tournament has garnered significant attention, with 120 top players, including international stars, expected to compete for honors, glory, and substantial prizes.

    A Platform for Excellence

This year’s edition holds greater significance as it precedes the biennial world championship, which kicks off on November 9 and runs until November 17. WESPAC is slated to take place in Accra, Ghana, just a few weeks after the Lekki Scrabble Classic. Given the timing, many believe the Lekki Scrabble Classic has become even more critical for players seeking to make a mark at the world championship.

    International Participation

The Lekki Scrabble Classic has evolved from a club meet to a national championship, attracting top players from around the world. Current title holder Charles Tachie-Menson of Ghana demonstrated the international caliber of the tournament by clinching the one million naira prize in the presence of top Nigerian players and contenders from the United States, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and Uganda. This diverse participation underscores the tournament’s reputation as one of the toughest fields in organized Scrabble.
