…Pledges Support To Government Programmes
The Peace Corps of Nigeria, Nasarawa State Command, has pledged its loyalty and support to the peace and sanctity of Nasarawa State.
State Commandant of the Corps, Bala Joshua, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, at his office in Lafia on Friday.
According to him, “The Peace Corps of Nigeria is a registered, voluntary Organisation in Nigeria accorded recognition by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Education and other Governmental bodies and the United Nations, U.N.

“In Nasarawa State, the Corps came into existence in 2003 during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Adamu. He gave approval for the operation of the activities of the Corps in the State.
“Our supervising Ministry then was the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and remains so up until date.
“We are here today to congratulate you over your appointment as Permanent Secretary to oversee the activities of youth and sports in the State.
“We are not unaware of your tremendous track records as far as sports and youth development is concerned in the State, and this could be the reason behind your appointment by His Excellency, the Executive Governor.

“We identify with you and this is to let you that the Corps in the State has over five thousand indigenous youths in its fold, and we are eagerly ready to partner with your Organisation as we have done before, in any area that will promote the growth and development of the State.
“We engage in neighbourhood watch, youth empowerment, surveillance in schools, among other voluntary security services.”
The State Commandant revealed that the Bill for the establishment of the Peace Corps of Nigeria had scaled through the Country’s National Assembly and it was hoped that it would be assented to by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Reacting, the Permanent Secretary, Chief Barr. Isaac Danladi, appreciated the Command for the visit.
He acknowledged the productive impacts of the Corps across, virtually, all sectors of Nigeria’s economy.

“I am aware of the commendable activities of the Corps. I have been keenly following all the great job you are doing and have friends who work in the Organisation.
“Just recently, we got a letter from your national body seeking audience with the Executive Governor of the State, and once that happens, of course, you will be in the team.
“We are partners in progress, and I assure you that we will continue to synergize with you in ensuring the security, peace and harmony of the State and by extension the country.”
