NDLEA Intercepts Cocaine, Tramadol, Counterfeit Travelers’ Cheques in Multiple Operations

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made several significant seizures and arrests in recent operations across the country. The agency’s operatives have intercepted cocaine consignments concealed in lipsticks and property title documents bound for the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, respectively.

A total of 420 grams of cocaine were seized from a cargo of lipsticks being shipped to the UK, while 280 grams of the same substance were recovered from a property title document (Certificate of Occupancy) being sent to Saudi Arabia. The consignments were intercepted at a courier company in Lagos on July 3, 2025.

The NDLEA also arrested a notorious drug kingpin, Ajetsibo Emami, popularly known as ‘Warri Kinsman’, in Ikeja, Lagos, on June 28, 2025. Emami’s network was dismantled in a three-day operation, leading to the arrest of three other suspects and the seizure of 414.2 kilograms of cannabis.

In another operation, a businessman, Ajah Johnson Uchenna, and his wife, Rosemary Uchenna, were arrested along with their two daughters and a family friend for running a major illicit drug distribution network in Lagos. A total of 508.5 kilograms of skunk were seized from their network.

NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport intercepted a frequent flyer, Aburemi Hysent, with 7,660 pills of tramadol 225mg and 200mg concealed in food items packed among other goods he was conveying to Italy. In another operation, a freight agent, Bolarinwa Saheed, was arrested with 52 pieces of travelers’ cheques worth $17.7 million concealed in children’s books bound for Malaysia.

The NDLEA also made several other significant seizures and arrests across the country, including the seizure of 359 kilograms of skunk at Seme border, 10,000 pills of tramadol 225mg and co-codamol in Abuja, and 13,901 pills and ampoules of different opioids in Osun state.

NDLEA operatives also destroyed 24,175 kilograms of skunk on 9.67 hectares of cannabis farmland at Ikaka, Oke-Ila forest, Osun state, and arrested seven suspects.

The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of the agency for their efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse.

He praised their balance between drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts.
