Today, Wednesday, 11th May, 2022, Amb. Lucky Isaac Yargwa, Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Nasarawa State, received young and promising Judoka, Madu Daniel Okechukwu who triumphed at the recently concluded Nigerian University Games, NUGA, held at the University of Lagos, Akoka.
Madu, an athlete with the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development is a 200 Level student studying Social Works at Federal University, Lafia.
He won Gold medal for his Institution in the +100kg Judo Men’s Category after beating his counterpart, Abraham Osipo, from the University of Port-harcourt, Rivers State in the final berth.
The Commissioner congratulated him for doing both the State and University proud at the Games.
He urged Madu to sustain the tempo, disclosing that the future holds greater things in store for him.
About seventy Universities were on parade with over ten thousand athletes participating at the 26th edition of the one-week long NUGA Games which ran from 19th through to 26th March, 2022.
Prior to his feat at the NUGA Games, Madu had represented Nigeria at the 2018 Africa Youth Games in Algiers, Algeria, where he won two Silver medals.
He also won one Silver medal for Nasarawa State in Port-harcourt, Rivers State, at the Prince Timothy Insirin Open Judo Championship, as well as Gold medal at the 2017 Loveth Howel National Open Judo Championship held in Benin City, Edo State.
