Nasarawa United FC were successful in every aspect of the recently concluded 2020/21 Nigeria Football League Season except for the trophy(ies).
1. Nasarawa United were rated as the best playing team during the just ended campaign.
2. Nasarawa United were the freest-scoring side during the Season, putting the ball behind their opponents’ net 55 times. Only league winners, Akwa United(53) and 2nd placed Rivers United(51) were closest.
3. Nasarawa United won the highest number of games(20), more than any other team else in the entire 38 games.
Only Akwa United(19), Rivers United (19), Kwara United (19) and Kano Pillars (19) were closest.
4. Silas Nwankwo scored the highest number of goals(19) in the league, a feat he shared with Akwa United’s Charles Atshimene(19).
5. Silas Nwankwo was voted Best Player of the Year based in Nigeria by the NFF/Aiteo award organisers.
6. Mohammed Galadima(Goalkeeper) was voted Most Valuable Player of the 2021 Aiteo Federation Cup Tournament.
7. Nasarawa United’s Media Officer, Eche Amos, was voted Best Media Officer of the Year by Sports Analysts/Soccer Pundits.
8. Three players from Nasarawa United FC made the 2020/21 NPFL Team of the Season, namely, Tebo Franklin(Defender), Chigozie Obasi(Defender) and Silas Nwankwo(Attacker).
9. Just six points separated winners of the 2020/21 campaign, Akwa United(71 points), from Nasarawa United(65 points). And only one point separated Nasarawa United from 2nd placed Rivers United(66 points), that’s after the NFF’s judgement.
10. Nasarawa United needed only but a draw in their last league match against Abia Warriors at Okigwe to play in CAF’s elite inter-club competition, the CAF Champions League, but football was cruel to them.
11. An outright win against Bayelsa United in the Aiteo Federation Cup final was needed to pick an automatic ticket for CAF’s second tier inter-club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup. Football, again, was bitterly cruel to the Solid Miners.
12. Of the 55 goals scored in the league by Nasarawa United players, Silas Nwankwo had a hand in 25 – i.e, scoring 19 and assisting six.
13. Of Nasarawa United’s eleven goals scored at the 2021 Aiteo Federation Cup(FA Cup), Silas Nwankwo had a hand in four, scoring three and assisting one.
14. Of the 20 NPFL teams for the 2020/21 NPFL Season, Nasarawa United paraded one of the youngest squads.
15. Though Kennedy Boboye won the Best Coach of the Year after leading Akwa United to their first ever league title, Coach Bala Nikyu of Nasarawa United FC was adjudged one of the best indigenous coaches in Nigeria after transforming the Solid Miners from the relegation battlers two seasons ago(2019/20), into title contenders a year(2020/21) after.
