With just five days to go, the Enugu State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a world-class experience at the upcoming Enugu City International Marathon.
The event, scheduled for May 3, 2025, is set to be the biggest road race in the history of South Eastern Nigeria.
Top marathon countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Eritrea, have confirmed their participation, with elite athletes already booked to fly into Enugu for the highly anticipated race.
Governor Peter Mbah emphasized his administration’s determination to make Enugu a major sports hub in Nigeria. “We are working closely with all relevant professional organizations and stakeholders to ensure nothing is left behind,” he said.
The governor expressed gratitude to the National Sports Commission, particularly Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, for their support. He noted that their leadership has brought transformative changes to Nigerian sports.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu Jr., called on citizens to come out and support the athletes.
He highlighted Enugu’s rich sporting heritage and the government’s commitment to resuscitating it through events like the marathon and the 23rd National Sports Festival in 2026.
