Captain of the South-South Male U17 Cricket team, Godsent Agbi like his predecessors has lifted the National Under 17 PwC Cricket Trophy after defeating South-West team by 50 runs on Sunday at the Nigeria Cricket Federation, (NCF) Pitch, National Stadium, Abuja.

Before the commencement of play, South-West won the toss and captain Clement Kehinde opted to field first. South-west trusted their bowlers like Precious Ayeni who recorded 2 maiden overs to keep their opponent from scoring high. However, the South-south boys pushed their runs according to plan. Joseph Onoshagbe, Godswill Effiong, Unity Ogboe, and Joseph Omonkhobhio contributed to South-South’s total tally of 129 runs and all out in 32.5 overs (129/10).

The South-West chase in the second inning ended very briefly and poorly, thanks to the precise and fierce bowlers of South-south. Opening bowlers Joseph Omonkhobhio and Daniel Sunday decimated South-west batters with ease. It was only captain Clement Kehinde and Daniel Ayodele who managed to score double-digit runs of 12 and 14 each. South-West’s total runs was an impoverished 79 runs and a loss of 10 wickets in 26.5 overs.

Out of 7 overs bowled, Daniel Sunday recorded 4 maiden overs while teammate Joseph Omonkhobhio took 4 wickets from his 7 overs. Joseph went on to win the Player of the Match award as South-South Boys claimed the coveted silverware for the 4th time in a row.

The 5th NCF/PwC National U17 championship finals also favoured South-South girls who were 49 runs better than their South-East counterparts. South South U17 girls scored 116/9 in the first inning and South East scored 67/10. Peace Usen became Player of the Match after taking 3 opponents’ wickets and played 14 runs for her team.

Six zones of the federation took part in the PwC U17 finals in both Boys and Girls category. Each zone had the best team players pulled from different states who participated in zonal playoffs about two weeks ago. The zones are North East, North West and North Central. Others are South West, South-South and South-East zone.
