The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) have taken swift action after a serious accident involving Tunisian athletes. The incident occurred on Saturday evening while the team was returning to the Games Village from the competition venue.
The President of the AFN, Chief Tonobok Okowa, and the President of the CAA, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, paid an urgent visit to the injured athletes at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta. They were joined by the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, and other officials.
Five athletes, one male and four female, are receiving treatment and have been moved to another medical facility in Lekki, Lagos, for further medical attention.

Chief Okowa commended the proactive action of the Ogun State Government, medical personnel, CAA officials, and security agencies who responded immediately to the emergency. “We will keep close watch on the injured athletes and see how they are faring. Our prayers are with the athletes, their families, and the entire people of Tunisia,” he said.
The AFN wishes to express its appreciation to the President of CAA, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, for visiting the injured athletes, as well as AFN board members and officials who responded to the incident.
“The Athletics Federation of Nigeria wishes the injured athletes a quick and full recovery and extends its heartfelt sympathy to their teammates, families, and the Tunisian delegation,” Chief Okowa said.
