The 2025 All Nigeria Athletics Championships, which doubles as the National Trials for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, is set to be a thrilling event.

According to Fatima Yusuf Olukojo, a board member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), this is not an ordinary track meet.

Olukojo, a legend quarter miler and 1996 Olympic Games bronze medallist, believes that the National Trials is the perfect platform for athletes to showcase their skills and prove their worth. With world record holder Tobi Amusan and a wave of NCAA finalists participating, the competition is expected to be fierce.

Olukojo has a message for the home-based track stars, urging them to step up and take on the foreign-based athletes. “Step on that track and take on the foreign-based athletes, just like many of us once did when we were young, home-based, and hungry,” she said.

The AFN board member is excited about the upcoming championships and encourages athletics lovers to throng the Yaba Sports Complex to support the athletes. “Wishing every athlete a fierce, focused, and fearless competition this weekend,” she said.

Olukojo concluded her chat with AFN Media Hub with a punchline that encapsulates the spirit of the championships: “Go race. Have fun. Make friends. Make history.”

With this year’s championships set to be an exciting event, athletes are expected to give their all and make their mark in the world of athletics.
