The National Sports Commission (NSC) has commended Team Nigeria’s outstanding performance at the 2025 Senior African Wrestling Championships in Casablanca, Morocco.
On the first day of the tournament, Nigerian wrestlers secured four gold medals, showcasing their dominance in the competition.
Despite Mercy Adekuoroye’s withdrawal due to illness, the Nigerian contingent delivered a flawless display. The four athletes who competed won their respective finals, propelling Nigeria to the top of the medal standings. The gold medal winners are:
– Christianah Ogunsanya (53kg)
– Esther Kolawole (62kg)
– Hannah Reuben (68kg)
– Damola Ojo (76kg)
NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, expressed delight with the team’s performance, praising their resilience and excellence. “What our wrestlers are doing in Casablanca is nothing short of phenomenal. We are proud of the athletes, the coaching crew, and the entire federation for this outstanding achievement,” Olopade said.

The 2025 Senior African Wrestling Championships will continue until May 4 at the Complexe Sportif Mohammed V in Casablanca, Morocco.
Team Nigeria aims to build on its early momentum and maintain its position at the top of the leaderboard.
