Ogun State Scrabble Team Gets Boost From Commissioner

The Ogun State Scrabble team preparing for the 22nd National Sports Festival received a surprise visit from Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka.

The commissioner expressed his excitement and high expectations from the team, comprising 16 players, including current African champion Oluwatimilehin Doko.

Hon. Isiaka pledged to provide more support to the team, saying, “I’m excited to be here! What I have seen so far is a strong and determined team, and we are very ready to support you and ensure that you get the best result.” He also appreciated the team’s captain, Cyril Umebiye, and the coaches for their dedication.

The commissioner emphasized his high expectations from the team, stating, “My expectation is very, very high because I know your rating in Nigeria, and I can’t expect less.” He was impressed with the team’s environment and determination, believing they would make the state proud.

Gateway Games Preparations
The National Sports Festival, scheduled from May 16 to 30, will feature Scrabble as one of its 37 sports events.

Ogun State, as the host, is preparing to provide top-notch facilities and ensure the comfort of visiting teams. The state has distributed its athletes across different locations, including Ikenne and Abeokuta, to facilitate optimal training conditions.

The Scrabble competition will comprise 12 events, including Men’s and Women’s singles, doubles, and team categories. The events will be held at the Ikenne centre, and medals will be awarded to winners in each category.
