OIFN Sets Stage For International Conference

Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation Network, (OIFN) has concluded arrangements to host its annual international conference award ceremony in the United Kingdom.

According to Tarela Aghanti, Founder of OIFN UK and Nigeria, the theme of the event is: Breaking Boundaries Together For OI. She informed that a key part of the conference, would be the Award of Excellence that would be given to individuals and organisations, that have support the OIFN UK, contributed and advanced the network’s work regarding Osteogenesis Imperfecta.

The event is expected to have a diverse discourse on osteogenesis imperfecta with speakers drawn from a wide scope concerning issues bordering on OI.

Aghanti, who is also the Deputy Governor of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Europe chapter maintains that:”This conference aims to create and raise awareness of OI within the underrepresented ethnic minority (BME) communities, increase membership within OIFN networks”.

Adding that it is to also help:”Initiate programme awareness exchange and collaboration, increase support, attract volunteers, and improve research on OI within the global African communities.

The convener says speakers have been carefully selected and would address such topics as: Limitations Exerted On Individuals Living With OI, Psychological Impact Of Chronic Pain & Physical Limitations, The Need For Research & Clinical Trials On OI Populations In Africa, amongst others.

Speakers expected at the event includes: Adeoye Emmanuel, Louise Adeleke, Olusheun Afilaka, Grace Alexander, Dr Sowjanya Avireddi, Dr Ugochi Ibekwe, Maureen Ojo, Prof Joy Onyesoh, Dr Davis Gatua, with Juliet Makhapila as the conference facilitator.

According to the conference organisers, the event is to further draw attention to the plight of persons with osteogenesis imperfecta, and raise awareness about OI as a matter of public health concern that needs government and corporate organisations’ intervention.

The conference is schedule to hold on May 17, 2025 with venue at Shendish Manor Hotel & Golf, London Road, Hemel Hampstead, Herts, England.

Participants are expected from all affiliate OI groups across the world. And activities would include Fund raising, Exhibition, Awards, Raffles and Dinner.
