The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has expressed his vision for Nigeria to become a nationwide sports hub, with every state transformed into a center of sporting excellence.

Speaking on the sidelines of the African Athletics Championship (CAA) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Olopade emphasized the importance of sports development in engaging youth, promoting peace, and driving economic growth.

Olopade cited Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Ogun States as benchmarks for their commitment to sports development, highlighting their modern infrastructure and successful hosting of national and international sporting events.

He also praised Enugu State for its plans to host the National Sports Festival, noting that sports can fuel enterprise, create jobs, and drive local economies.

Looking ahead, Olopade emphasized the need for a broader vision that includes every region and every sport.

“We want to see sports like badminton, volleyball, cricket, and rugby flourish in states like Kano, which has deep roots in football and basketball,” he said. “Sports is a billion-dollar industry, and we must view it as a tool for youth empowerment and national growth.”

As states like Ogun and Enugu continue to invest in sports infrastructure and development, Nigeria could soon witness a golden era where every region is not just playing the game but winning on all fronts. With the NSC’s vision and support, the country’s sports landscape is poised for a major transformation.
