Nasarawa Amazons Crowned Champions, Receive N1 Million Reward

The Nasarawa Amazons women’s football team has emerged victorious in the Governor Douye Diri 2025 Women’s Pre-season Football Tournament, held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The team defeated Bayelsa Queens 6-5 in a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regulation time.

Nasarawa State’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, fulfilled his promise by presenting a N1 million reward to the team. The reward was divided equally between the players (N500,000) and the technical officials (N500,000), led by Coach Christopher Danjuma.

 

Hon. Kwanta Yakubu congratulated the team on their win, expressing pride in their achievement. He stated that the victory sets a positive tone for the upcoming 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Premier League season. The commissioner also conveyed Governor Abdullahi Sule’s pride in the team’s accomplishment and invited them to return to Lafia for a hero’s welcome.

Nasarawa Amazons’ Chairperson, Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, dedicated the win to Governor Abdullahi Sule, acknowledging his unwavering support for the team. She pledged that the team would continue striving for success, aiming to win a trophy before the end of the current administration.

The Governor Douye Diri Women’s Pre-season Football Tournament featured ten teams from the Nigeria Women’s Premier League, competing over a week-long period from October 19, 2025. The tournament provided a platform for teams to prepare for the upcoming league season, showcasing their skills and determination.
