The winning Team Nigeria from the second edition of the Senior CAA Region 2 Athletics Championship is set to return tomorrow, with an expected arrival at the MMI Aiport in Lagos.

The delegation would be led by Technical Director Gabriel Okon. It would include athletes, AFN officials and others who were part of the Nigeria contingent who attended the championship.

The country’s representatives had a fantastic showing at the second edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region 2 Senior Athletics Championships which held in Ghana.

Team Nigeria topped the medal table with 15 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze medals, totaling 25 medals.
Medal haul for this year’s edition surpasses last year’s achievement of 13 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medal.

Most of the teams medals came from sprints, quarter-mile races, throws, and jumps. Notable victories for Nigeria were gold in both the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay finals.

In the men’s event, Nigeria edged out Ghana by a hundredth of a second (39.74s vs 39.75s). With Olaolu Olatunde winning gold in the men’s 100m (10.60s), Chioma Nweke in the women’s 100m (11.62s), and 15-year-old Omosivwe Treasure in the women’s high jump (1.75m).

As of now, it is uncertain whether there will be a reception for the team upon their return.
