Some residents of Idi-Araba, Idi-Oro, Ilasa, Mushin, and neighbouring communities have appealed to the Nigeria Police Force to adopt a more civil and professional approach during security operations in the area.

The residents made the appeal during a press conference held in Mushin on Monday.

They stressed the urgent need for peace and the protection of citizens’ rights.

They alleged that recent police raids in the Mushin axis were marred by harassment, indiscriminate arrests, and destruction of personal property, which they described as illegal and unacceptable.

Mr Tunde Odebiyi, a community leader in Mushin, said the residents desire a peaceful and violence-free environment.

“We don’t want bloodshed, clashes, or chaos in our communities anymore.

“We seek peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between the police and residents,” he said.

A resident of Ilasa, Mrs Bilkis Tijani, echoed similar sentiments, urging law enforcement agencies to prioritize intelligence gathering and proper engagement before launching operations.

“Women and children are often caught in the crossfire of these sudden raids.

“We want to feel protected, not threatened, by those tasked with securing us,” she said.

Similarly, Mr Umar Danjuma, a resident of Idi-Araba, called for dialogue between police authorities and community representatives to build trust and understanding.

“There must be regular community-police engagement to avoid future friction and suspicion,” he noted.

Mr Yusuf Ali, a resident of Idi-Oro, decried the frequent invasion of homes at night.

“People are living in fear. Innocent youths are being profiled and arrested indiscriminately. This is not how to build peace,” he said.

Also speaking, Mr Dimeji Badejo, a Mushin-based artisan, appealed for more investment in community policing structures.

“When local security networks are empowered, crime is reduced and the community feels involved in its own safety,” he said.

Lastly, Mr Oladipupo George, a victim of a recent police raid, narrated his ordeal and appealed for justice.

“They broke into my house without a warrant, injured me and my son, damaged my property, and detained myself and my son for hours without cause.

“I want the authorities to look into my case,” he lamented.

The residents applauded the financial support, swift intervention and efforts of Commissioner Nkechi Uzoegwu, the founder of Yeti Youth Empowerment Foundation for her selfless service in ensuring peace at Mushin and its environment.

She is a lover of peace, humanitarian and supporter of the community peace, progress and development.

The residents called on the Lagos State Government, the Police Service Commission, and human rights organisations to intervene and ensure the protection of citizens’ rights while maintaining law and order in the community.
