Nigeria’s Esther Kolawole has emerged victorious at the Grand Prix of Spain, winning gold in the 62kg weight category. Kolawole defeated USA’s Haylie Jaffe 10-0 by superiority in the final, showcasing her dominance in the competition.
The African champion entered the encounter with confidence after convincing victories over Lydia Perez Tourino of Spain and Polish wrestler Alicja Nowosad in the quarter-final and semi-final, respectively. Her win is a testament to her potential and belief in her abilities.
Reacting to Kolawole’s win, Nigeria Wrestling Federation President, Honourable Daniel Igali, applauded her motivated reaction, expressing confidence that the experience will shape her for future international events.
Igali noted that he is satisfied with Kolawole’s incredible outing, saying that if she continues on this trajectory, Nigerians should be hopeful of many gold medals from her.
After her victory in Spain, Kolawole will participate in the Ranking Series in Budapest, Hungary, from July 14th to 19th, 2025, in preparation for the World Wrestling Championship in Croatia later this year.
