Mr Monsuru Akinloye, Chairman Eredo Local Council Development Area, in Epe Division, has appealed to protesters to be civil, patriotic and calm while exercising their civic responsibility.
Akinloye made the appeal during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Eredo, on Thursday.
He, however, urged the protesters to exercise patient with President Bola Tinubu led administration.
He added that the appeal was necessary in order for the protesters to shed their sword, embrace peace and be hopeful of a brighter and better Nigeria soonest.
“Citizens should demonstrate their civic responsibility peacefully, calmly and be patriotic about it.
“It is constitutional for citizens to hold a peaceful protest but they must be patriotic about the exercise, ” he said.
He added that the economic reform of this present administration cannot manifest in one day, It takes a gradual process.
“Citizens should understand that no government will be happy seeing its citizens suffering .
“President Tinubu understand the pains and worries of Nigerians. I am sure that the economic reform and restructuring President Tinubu is doing will catapult Nigeria economy to a greater height, ” he said.
According to him, protest is the civic right of the citizens. Nigerians have the right to protest but the protest must be orderly and peaceful devoid of violent and attack.
Akinloye said tha there is nothing like protest in his council area because he has sensitised and educate the community and residents on societal development these present administration are working upon.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel. Little patient does it, ” he said.
The council chairman applauded Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for ensuring that the council chairmen across Lagos State put smile in the faces of the residents through cash distribution and food palliative.
“As part of providing succor for the residents and Indigenes of the community, I gave out N20,000 each to 1,200 people in my council area which amounted to N20million.
“I also distributed food palliative worth millions to residents to put relief on the hardship the Indigenes are facing in this harsh period, ” he said.
Akinloye said that the tiers of government are doing their best but the best is not enough, therefore, there is always a room to do more and better.
“I therefore, appeal to the citizen of Nigeria to shun protest and embrace peace and unity and be hopeful of a better Nigeria for Nigerians.
