NDLEA Intercepts N6.5 Billion Opioids, Nabs 2 British Nationals

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a large consignment of opioids worth N6.5 billion at the Apapa and Onne ports in Lagos and Rivers states, respectively.

According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA, the agency’s operatives also arrested two British nationals, Mhizha Jordan Alexander Tatendra and Ayedipe Andrew Adejuwon, for attempting to smuggle 51.10kg of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, into Nigeria.

The NDLEA operatives at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, and the Apapa seaport, Lagos, intercepted six million pills of opioids and 332,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. The agency’s Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men of the affected commands for their efforts in tackling drug trafficking.

In other operations, the NDLEA destroyed 77,000kg of skunk on cannabis farms in Cross River and Edo states. The agency also recovered 4,000kg of skunk in Nasarawa state and arrested several suspects.

The NDLEA continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities across the country, delivering sensitization lectures to students and staff of various schools. The agency’s efforts demonstrate its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.
