The 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season got underway on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, with a thrilling match between defending champions Bayelsa Queens and 2024 champions Edo Queens at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa.

In a match filled with drama and late goals, Bayelsa Queens emerged victorious, defeating Edo Queens 3-2 in a come-from-behind win. Rebecca Adegbemile had given Edo Queens the lead in the 23rd minute, but Kindness Ifeanyi equalized for the hosts before halftime.

Janet Akekerowei gave Bayelsa Queens the lead early in the second half, only for Adanna Nwachukwu to level the score late on. However, Blessing Ilivieda scored a stoppage-time winner to seal the points for the Prosperity Girls.

Elsewhere, Adamawa Queens secured a 2-0 win over Pacesetter Queens, while Heartland Queens came from behind to beat Ekiti Queens 2-1. Naija Ratels were held to a goalless draw by Ibom Angels, and Nasarawa Amazons recorded a 2-1 comeback win over Dannaz Ladies.

In other matches, Abia Angels drew 2-2 with Confluence Queens, FC Robo Queens secured a 1-0 win over Sunshine Queens, and Dannaz Ladies edged Osun Babes 3-2 in a thrilling encounter. Ahudiyannem Queens and Remo Stars Ladies closed out the opening midweek with a 0-0 draw.
