Nigeria’s fencing sensation Inkosi Brou has made history, becoming the first Nigerian to break into the top 10 junior fencers globally. The 18-year-old has been ranked 10th in the Men’s Sabre junior category by the International Fencing Federation (FIE).

Brou’s impressive rise is attributed to his recent performances, including a sixth-place finish at the 2026 FIE World Cup in Dakar, Senegal. With 68.750 points, he trails only Egypt’s Ahmed Hesham, who sits in 7th place with 76.30 points.

Brou’s achievements are a testament to his dedication and passion for the sport. He started representing Nigeria globally in October 2023 and has already made a name for himself, winning Nigeria’s first-ever global Men’s Sabre fencing medal (silver at the World Tournoi Satellite Cup in Iceland, 2024) and a bronze medal at the 2025 African Junior Championships in Luanda, Angola.

At just 16, he became the first Nigerian selected for the prestigious All-American Fencing First Team in the United States. Brou’s ultimate goal is to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and become Nigeria’s first-ever Olympic fencer.

Adeyinka Samuel, President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, praised Brou’s achievement, saying, “Nigeria is fast finding its feet among elite fencing nations. Brou has been consistent and is a silent achiever who inspires our young fencers. His success will positively impact Nigeria’s image in the global fencing community and serve as a role model for others.”
