The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has released a 24-man provisional roster for the upcoming 2025 Afrobasket Qualifiers, scheduled to take place in Tripoli, Libya later this month.
The roster, made public over the weekend, includes 11 players from the domestic league, with Rivers Hoopers contributing five players, while Hoops N’ Read has three representatives.
The team will be captained by 31-year-old shooting guard, Ikechukwu Sean Nwamu.
The provisional roster also features 13 overseas-based players from 10 countries, including Croatia, France, Ghana, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, Latvia, Poland, Russia, and Spain.
Coach Abdulrahman Mohammed will lead the team, assisted by former D’Tigers center, Deji Akindele, and Isikaku Ikenna Smart, an assistant video coordinator for the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers.
The team is expected to report to the Bentley Hotel in Utako District, Abuja, for a week-long training camp before departing for Libya.
Nigeria, the 2015 AfroBasket champions, will face host Libya, Cape Verde, and Uganda in the final window of the 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket Qualifiers.
The team needs to win at least two of its three games to secure a spot in the finals, scheduled to take place in Luanda, Angola from August 12-24, 2025.
