Lagos lawmaker, Mr Abiodun Tobun, representing Epe Constituency 1, in Lagos State House of Assembly, gave out cash and food items to 250 constituents to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal in the country.

Tobun disclosed while addressing newsmen in Epe, on Sunday, that the idea was to support the government food palliative distribution initiative at the grassroots. The food items distributed include rice, beans, garri and cash.

The lawmaker said that no fewer than 250 people benefited from the food palliative in his constituency while some people received cash.

“Those who did not get food items were given cash as compensation. I don’t want to disclose the amount of cash given but it is in thousand,

“The people that attended the event were more than the people invited and I can’t let them go just like that, hence, requires me to give them cash as succor,” he said.

He added that the people at the grassroots are the ones feeling the effect of the removal of the fuel subsidy the most because of the slow in socioeconomic/commercial activities at the rural areas due to the hike in prices of commodities.

“There is no doubt that people at the urban areas are not feeling the heat too but the people at the grassroots are feeling it the most.

“It is on this note that I decided to look back and give back to my constituency to relieve them from the present economic hardship, ” he said.

Tobun added that the food distribution is not a one-off exercise, It is a continuous event.

He urged Nigerians to be patient with President Tinubu-led administration.

He added that the economic policy of President Tinubu would transform the situation of the country at the long run for better.

“There is no development without hardship, Development comes with hardship. No pain, No gain.

“I am optimistic that Nigerians will gain at the end, ” he said.

A beneficiary, Olawunmi Bakare, a member of ward A5, commended the food distribution initiative of the lawmaker.

She said the food palliatives come at the right time.

Another beneficiary, Adekunle Bishi, of ward B1, urged the government to make the food palliatives distribution a continuous exercise.

He added that people at the grassroots are affected the most by the fuel removal, hence, there is a need for continuous exercise of the food distributions.
