Five construction firms submitted bids to replace the playing surface of the Lafia City Stadium and to affix the removed old turf on the Hockey Field.
Premium Impact Limited, The WaterFall Tourist Limited, Reform Sports West Africa, ATM Earth Creatives, and Reform Construction Company Limited are in the running to lay the multi-million naira artificial turf.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the State’s Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ibrahim Aminu Shammah, “Two Committees set up by the Ministry which include Technical and Finance, will work on the bids submitted by the firms before reverting to the Evaluation Committee which will then analyse the reports of both Committees based on their evaluation before a decision will be reached and forwarded to the Bureau of Public Procurement for onward action.”
Publication for bidding was done on two national dailies of Leadership and The Nation Newspapers on 20th November, 2021, by the Ministry with a deadline of two weeks for submission of bids by Firms which elapsed on Saturday, 4th December, 2021, and all five firms were at the Conference Hall of the Ministry in Lafia where their identities and quotations were disclosed on Monday this week, with representatives of Nasarawa State Bureau of Public Procurement and Centre for Women, Youth and Community Action (NACWYCA), a Non-governmental Organization both led by Umar A. Mohammed and Glory Gbaji, respectively, witnessing the process.
Among Management and Staff of the Ministry in attendance at the bidding session were Shammah Lawrence(Director, Sports), Ismaila Agyo Ewa(Director, Finance & Accounts), Mustapha Sani Bello(Director, Technicals), Ahmed Yusuf(Director, Facilities), Mustapha Isa(Director, Administration & Supplies), Abubakar Umar(Director, Youth Development), Uba Musa(Director, Planning, Research & Statistics), Fatima Tani Yamusa(Head of Internal Audits), Shammasu Adamude – Procurement Officer), and Suleiman Ogah(Admin. Officer).
Works on the laying of artificial grass are expected to be completed in due course.
