Residents of Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, in Ejigbo Local Council Development Area, are up in arms over the poor power supply they’ve been experiencing for the past three months.
According to them, the situation is dire, with power outages being a regular occurrence and multiple transformer breakdowns exacerbating the issue.
The community has been forced to adapt, with many stopping the storage of food and other perishables due to the unreliable power supply. Even adequate water in homes have become a big challenge.
Yusuf Adeyemi, Chairman of the Estate Youth Parliament, revealed that their concerns have been communicated to Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC), and discussions are underway to resolve the issue.
Adeyemi stated, “The concerns of the residents have been presented to the Oke-Afa unit of IKEDC, and engagement is ongoing, hoping that the situation would improve as soon as possible”.
Residents say the expectation of 16 hours supply is now 2 hours maximum for them in Jakande Estate Oke Afa Lagos State. Stressing that the supply is so erratic that residents don’t even see any reason for being band B customers.
Yusuf Adeyemi, informed that the promise of improved power supply, going by the two weeks upgrade recently carried, supply became worse instead of being better as the purpose of the two weeks suffering is defeated.
“It’s a pity that we have these kind of people in charge at Oke-Afa Undertaking Station right now. When we have had wonderful people in the past who did wonderfully well. This present leadership in the station is nothing to write home about, and their manager appears suspect when it comes to customer service and management”, Adeyemi posited.
The residents pray the Disco to please improve supply for better, urging the Oke-Afa Unit manager to communicate better. If there are issues he should inform and do best to make residents happy.
