Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has confirmed his availability to receive the prestigious Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN) National Merit Sports Award. The award is in recognition of Governor Sule’s outstanding contributions to promoting sports excellence in the state.
Governor Sule expressed his gratitude to the national leadership of SWAN for nominating him for the award. He attributed the success of Nasarawa State’s sports teams to the collective efforts of stakeholders, including players, coaches, supporters’ clubs, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and the media. The Governor also commended the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, and the State Football Association for their wonderful work.
The SWAN National Merit Sports Award is a fitting tribute to Governor Sule’s visionary leadership and passion for sports development. The award ceremony, which will be held on October 31, 2025, in Abuja, promises to bring together an illustrious gathering of dignitaries, sports administrators, athletes, and journalists.

The state’s teams have excelled in various competitions, including the Nigeria Premier League and the Governor’s Cup Football Tournament. Governor Sule has urged sports stakeholders in Abuja to join him in receiving the award, saying, “I expect everyone of you in Abuja, even if I have to pay for your hotel accommodation, to join me in receiving the award.”
