Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has showered millions of Naira and hundreds of dollars on outstanding athletes and coaches who brought glory to the state at various national sports competitions.
The gesture was made at a special reception held at the Government House, Lafia, on Friday.
According to Governor Sule, the State Government will give N25 million to the players of Nasarawa Amazons, while their Management and Technical Officials will receive N5 million.
Nasarawa United players will get N20 million, while their Management and Technical Officials will receive N5 million. The Supporters’ Clubs of both teams will each receive N5 million, and the Nasarawa United Feeder Team will also get N5 million.
Governor Sule also made a personal dollar donation to players and coaches of Nasarawa United FC and Nasarawa Amazons, respectively.
In his remarks, Governor Sule congratulated the teams, athletes, and coaches for their outstanding performances.
He said, “Let me congratulate our teams, especially Nasarawa Amazons, for their wonderful performance at both the regular 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Premier League Season and the 2025 President Federation’s Cup.”
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, appreciated the Governor for his relentless support to sports and talent development in the State.
He said, “At Your Excellency’s permission, we have gathered here to celebrate the unwavering dedication, relentless passion, and outstanding achievements of our athletes, coaches, and sports officials who excelled at various sports meets.”
The Governor also presented two brand new 18-seater Hiace buses to the Management members of Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons, as well as rewarding the Supporters’ Clubs of the two teams.
The Chairperson of Nasarawa Amazons FC, Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, applauded the Governor for his fatherly motivation, stressing that the Governor’s gesture will spur the State’s sports ambassadors to outperform previous feats.
