The Nasarawa State Government has committed to transforming the Lafia Golf Club to international standards.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, made the pledge during an assessment visit to the facility on Wednesday.
According to the statement e-signed by Eche Amos, Head of Public Relations, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Commissioner, accompanied by senior officials, inspected the course’s facilities, including the greens, fairways, clubhouse, and equipment.
After receiving briefings from the Course’s Maintenance Officer, Engr. Tony Effa, Kwanta directed the Ministry’s Director of Facilities and Stadia Management, Yusuf Ahmad, to submit a detailed proposal for renovations and maintenance.
The facelift is part of preparations for the upcoming Zumunta Association International golf tournament, slated for July 19th, 2025. The event is expected to attract top golfers from Nigeria and the diaspora.
According to Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, “Governor Abdullahi Sule has an unquenchable love and passion for sports and sports people, hence the urgency to intervene in the condition of the Golf Course, which is adjudged one of the largest in Nigeria.”
As quoted by Eche Amos, Head of Public Relations, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Commissioner emphasized the Governor’s commitment to sports development in the state.
