Epe Indigenous, Traditional Women Drum Support For LG Chairman

Some community women leaders in Epe Divisional area of Lagos state, have commended the sterling performance of the first female local government chairman in the Division and drum support for her administration success.

The women disclosed during a meeting held in Epe.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that, Ms Surah Animashaun was the first female chairman in Epe Division since the creation of Local Government(LG) and Local Council Development Area(LCDA).

The spokesperson of the women group, Mrs Shakirat Hassan, Otun Iyalode of Epe Land, said that the financial and moral support that women in this ancient community are enjoying in this present administration cannot be overemphasized.

She said that, it was not a mistake to elect a female as the chairman of this LG because her motherly care, support and responsibilities to women in this community, was second to none.

She affirmed that Ms. Surah Animashaun was the first female chairman in Epe Division

“Men have always been leading the affairs of the council for many years, but, this is the first female chairman to attain that position since time immemorial.

“Now that we have a female as a leader in the council, we female folks within the community will rally round support for her to have a successful tenure/administration.

“Women are assets, they perform better when you saddle them with responsibility, sincerely yours, they will deliver their mandate” she said.

Hassan mentioned some of the achievements of the chairman as; financial support for over 300 women in the community, employment for casual staff, intervention programs, good health care schemes for women, educational support for children, adults programs, among several others.

She added that, the attention the past male chairmen could not give to the women, this present administration has given them and the women are enjoying the female led administration.

“We are happy with her administration achievement and we want her to continue for 8 years.

“She gives a listening ear, she is always there for the community at any point in time, and her sterling performance will speak for her in the coming election,” she said.

The spokesperson said that, “As Oliver Twist” the community wants more from the chairman such as; infrastructural development, employment opportunities, youth engagement, and strengthening community women leaders relationships.

She added that the women’s group has prepared their Permanent Voters Card(PVC) to support and vote for the female chairman once again.
